The Hitzacker Archaeological Centre is an open-air museum near the town of Hitzacker in Lower Saxony. It focuses on Bronze Age life and features reconstructions of period buildings. The site stands beside Lake Hitzacker, where early traces of settlement were found. Three longhouses, a burial hut and a pit-house have been rebuilt from local finds. Everyday objects and tools fill the interiors, showing how people lived around 3,000 years ago.

The centre is worth visiting because it grew from important discoveries made in 1969. Serious excavations only began in 1987 when roadworks threatened the remains. The finds were so significant that the museum opened in 1990. It is now run by the local archaeological society and a supporting association. Couples can even hold registry office weddings here with a special programme.

Visitors walk among the longhouses and see bronze-casting demonstrations. They can try bread baking, fire lighting and spinning on replica equipment. The burial hut and pit-house add to the sense of stepping back in time. The lakeside setting and reconstructed landscape complete the experience.
