Schloss Rittershain stands in Rockensüß, a village in the Cornberg district of northern Hesse. The present building was erected in 1854 for the von der Recke family on land once held by the von Cornbergs. Earlier owners included the von Biedenfelds, who farmed a nearby estate shown on Gerhard Mercator’s 1592 map.

The castle and its park were designed for private use and remain in private hands. In the 20th century a restaurant operated within the house, drawing visitors to the quiet countryside. A modern art trail, Kunst zurück zur Natur, passes the gates, linking the building to contemporary landscape art.

Visitors walk through the park and view the main house from the outside. The surrounding fields and wooded hills of the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district frame the scene. The castle itself is not open to the public, but the path and its artworks offer a gentle stroll and a glimpse of local history.
