On the map

Flix is in the Catalan region of Ribera d’Ebre, where the Ebro flows through wide, fertile plains. The municipality covers an area of about 116 square kilometres and is surrounded by hills and farmland. Together with its neighbouring towns Ascó and Vinebre, it forms a densely populated network in the lower Ebro valley.

Flix was first mentioned in the Middle Ages, when it was under the rule of various counties. For centuries, agriculture shaped life here until the chemical industry opened a new chapter in the 20th century. Today, the town is best known for its factories, which among other things produce tetrachloroethylene.

Visitors will find few historic buildings in Flix, but the surrounding area invites walks along the river. The chemical plants shape the landscape more than old churches or squares. Those interested in the local industry can find information on the municipal website or from environmental protection organisations.
